Buying life insurance should not depend on how you use a computer. These websites are built to be operated with a keyboard alone, with a screen reader, at high magnification, and without relying on colour or on animation.
Conformance standard
We build to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We treat that standard as the requirement for new work: a page or feature is not finished until it meets it.
We describe these sites as partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard and some parts do not yet. We have not commissioned an independent audit, and we do not claim certification by any organisation. When an audit is completed, its date and scope will be published here.
This statement is made in the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508. It applies to the Thalos Life application websiteDirect 130 agent website. Pages hosted by other companies, including Stripe's payment and identity pages, are governed by those companies' own accessibility practices.
What we do
- Keyboard. Every control can be reached and operated with a keyboard, in a sensible order, with a visible focus outline. A skip link jumps past the navigation to the main content. No part of the application requires a mouse, a drag, or a gesture.
- Screen readers. Pages use real headings, lists, labels and landmarks rather than styled text. Form fields have permanent visible labels, not placeholder text. Status messages and errors are announced without moving your focus.
- Contrast and text. Body text and controls are intended to meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio, and larger text 3:1. Text can be resized to 200% and the layout reflows to a single column at 320 pixels wide without loss of content or horizontal scrolling.
- Colour and motion. No instruction depends on colour alone. Decorative animation is suppressed when your system requests reduced motion. Nothing flashes.
- Targets and errors. Interactive controls are at least 44 by 44 pixels. Errors are described in words, next to the field they concern, with instructions for fixing them.
- Time. The application does not impose a countdown. A sign-in link expires for security reasons, and a new one can always be requested.
Known limitations
We would rather name these than imply they do not exist.
- Third-party pages. Identity verification and payment are completed on Stripe's own hosted pages. We do not control their markup. If you meet a barrier there, tell us and we will help you complete the step another way.
- Uploaded documents. A licence document you upload is processed as you supplied it. A scanned image without a text layer cannot be read by assistive technology, or by us.
- No independent audit yet. Our conformance claim rests on internal testing. Treat it as a good-faith assessment rather than a verified result.
Report a barrier
If any part of these sites prevents you from doing something, tell us and we will fix it or give you another route to the same outcome.
Email accessibility@thaloslife.com. Describe the page, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology or settings you use, if you are comfortable sharing that. You do not need to know the cause or use technical language.
We aim to acknowledge a report within 5 business days and to explain what we will do and by when. If a fix will take time, we will offer a way to complete your request in the meantime. There is no cost, and asking does not affect your application.
Other ways to apply
If the website does not work for you, it must not be the reason you go without coverage. Contact us at the address above and we will arrange an accessible alternative for the step you are stuck on, including an alternative format of any document we ask you to read.
Accessibility work is continuous. This statement is reviewed when the site changes materially and at least once a year, and the date above is updated when it is.
